Another pastor has died at the hands of the military in Myanmar.

At about 4 p.m. on Sept. 14, the military shot and killed the Rev. Dal Thawn Tuang, assistant pastor of Lamzang Baptist Church in Lamzang Village, Chin state. The Burma Research Institute (BRI) confirmed his death.

“Our staff is praying for Pastor Tuang’s family and his church,” International Christian Concern (ICC) President Shawn Wright said. “Following the recent murder of Pastor William and our brother Nam Ceu, this is certainly a concerning trend in Myanmar (Burma). We ask Christians in the West to lift up these grieving families in prayer and pray for the Burmese Church to be united and encouraged during the ongoing violence.”

Pastor Tuang, who served at Lamzang Baptist for 22 years, is survived by his wife and two children. His funeral occurred on Sept. 16 in the village of Lamzang.

The military reportedly shot the pastor three times near the Kapte bridge. Tuang was returning to Lamzang after conducting religious activities in a nearby village. Bullets reportedly struck his chest, abdomen, and thigh.

A Pattern of Violence

The military killed Rev. William and another Chin Christian, Nam Ceu, on June 4. Rev. William had pastored the Chungcung Baptist Church in Chin state for more than 25 years. He was arrested with Ceu in May and had been detained by the military since then.

Sources told the BRI that Rev. William and Ceu were killed for allegedly supporting the Hakha Chinland Defense Force (CDF), which is fighting against the Burmese military dictatorship.

The BRI also reported that Chungcung village has been regularly and brutally attacked since the military junta took power in 2021, and the Chungcung Baptist Church itself had been destroyed and looted in October 2021. Rev. William left behind a wife and five children.

The latest pattern of violence against Christians in Myanmar emerges as more than 340 churches and buildings owned by Christians have been damaged or destroyed by the military since the 2021 coup. According to a recent report citing figures from Open Doors, 149 Christians were killed and 218 imprisoned from 2022 to 2025.
