“We trust in God for Our Daily Bread”
Newly married with a one-year-old daughter, Habib* and Dounia* (names changed for security) recently converted to Christianity from Islam. When their conversion became known, Habib’s Muslim sister turned the community against them and they were forced by their family to move out of their home in May. The only support they have received came from the local church, but Habib cannot find a job and the family is suffering greatly under their impoverished circumstances. “I don’t know where food will come from each day,” Habib told ICC. “We trust God for our daily bread.”
Moreover, Dounia suffers from heart issues following a stroke she had several years back. Just a month ago, Dounia was in the hospital recovering from heart failures.ICC realized that the best method to help the family was to develop a business that would provide a sustainable monthly income, which would allow the family to pay for rent, food, and medical bills.
In July, the family showed interest in starting a small business that manufactures artisanal bread and cakes. ICC thought this was a great idea! ICC paid a full year’s rent for a small shop in town where bread can easily be sold. Additionally, we purchased an oven, mixer, and other equipment and raw materials needed to get the business going. Within a few months, the business will be completely sustainable and provide the income the family needs.
“We are very excited about having our own business,” Dounia said. “We love our customers and see it as an opportunity to be an example of Christ in their lives. And, life will be much better for us now. Thank you ICC!”
