Fulani Extremists Kill 1, Abduct 3 Others in Southern Kaduna

11/20/2024 Nigeria (International Christian Concern) — Just before midnight on Nov. 16, Islamic Fulani extremists stormed the peaceful Christian community of Kuvoh in the Kusheka area of Kauru, southern Kaduna, killing one man and abducting three other Christians. Many residents sustained injuries during the attack, with some requiring urgent medical attention.
Villagers told an International Christian Concern (ICC) staffer that Mangala Moses, the man who died in the attack, was a well-liked member of the community who served as a leader in his church. Other than briefly speaking about Moses, many villagers declined to speak about the attack.
Local authorities have arrested villagers who have confirmed details about other recent Islamic extremist attacks. Officials also have fined media organizations for reporting on similar incidents. Community leaders in Kuvoh and the broader Kauru county are speaking out, urging authorities to conduct a thorough investigation to bring those responsible to justice.
The attack in Kuvoh adds to a growing list of security concerns in Kaduna state, where kidnapping, banditry, and other forms of violence have surged in recent years. Communities in Kauru, particularly in rural regions like Kuvoh, have become vulnerable to attacks as armed groups operate with little restraint. Residents living under the constant threat of violence are left feeling defenseless.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and the Kuvoh community,” said a spokesperson from a local advocacy group who wished to remain anonymous. “We are united with those affected, and we are committed to advocating for the safety and justice that our communities urgently require.”
