01/20/2024 Malaysia (International Christian Concern) — Two Malaysian filmmakers face up to one year each in jail for a movie that explored differences and similarities between religions in Malaysia.

Authorities have charged them under strict blasphemy laws, specifically “deliberately intended to hurt other people’s religious feelings by uttering words and placing objects in the person’s sight.” The filmmakers were released on bail.

Critics of the film — about a 15-year-old Muslim girl who questions her Islamic faith and explores other faiths — accused the filmmakers of intentionally going against Islamic laws and protocols.
