Mozambique Continues to be a Growth Area for ISIS
05/13/2020 Mozambique (International Christian Concern) – Northern Mozambique has become the newest battleground against ISIS in Africa. The terror group has already established a solid splinter cell in West Africa, which has been operating for several years. Now it appears that they have a growing group in central Africa that is beginning to gain strength. In the past month, Islamic State Central African Province(ISCAP), has been able to conduct several attacks, including taking control of two towns in the Cabo Delgado region of Mozambique.
During these attacks, they dozens of people, and destroyed a lot of government property to include police stations and military outposts. They were also able to seize supplies and food. The ongoing attacks and growing strength of this group in Northern Mozambique is threatening an already poor and downtrodden people. Those of the Cabo Delgado region have long complained that the natural resources of their home are being taken by rich developers from outside the region and none of the money stays. This has led to discontent against the government and may have helped give a place for ISIS to start a group.
So far there has been no major indications that the attacks in this area are targeting Christians, but it will likely start to if the group is able to gain a major foothold. They have proven across the world that they hate Christ and his followers. From the devastated Christian population of the Middle East, to the heavily displaced Christian populations of West Africa, ISIS has been attacking and killing Christians throughout the world. Please pray for those in Mozambique to remain safe. Pray that God would protect his children in Cabo Delgado and that he would give the government wisdom in how to protect their people.
