07/10/2019 Thailand (International Christian Concern) – Allegedly acting on a tipoff, Thai authorities raided an apartment building in Bangkok and arrested 51 Pakistani Christian asylum seekers on July 8.

The police rounded up several families and sent them to Bangkok’s notorious Immigration Detention Center (IDC), where detainees face uncertain future in overcrowded cells.

A Pakistani Christian asylum seeker told UCA News, “They took everyone — men, women, old people, young children. They even took sick old people who can’t walk anymore.”

Pakistani Christians in Bangkok fear that local authorities might be launching another crackdown on people staying illegally in the country, including asylum seekers with no proper refugee status.

Hundreds of Pakistani Christians who have fled their homeland from religious persecution remain in legal limbo in Bangkok. Accounting for less than 2 percent of the predominantly Muslim country’s population, Pakistani Christians are commonly considered to be among the most persecuted minorities in the region.
