02/19/2019 Washington D.C. (International Christian Concern) – Following an al-Shabaab attack on a mining camp in Mandera, Kenya, five families lost their husbands, brothers, and sons. This is unfor­tunately a common occurrence, as al-Shabaab militants cross the Kenya-Somalia border to target non-locals and non-Somalis because they are often not Muslims. They kill them and then flee back to Somalia without ever being caught.

This loss is not only emotionally devastat­ing for the families, but financially as well. As those who were killed were the main pro­viders for their loved ones, the families were left without a source of income on top of the overwhelming weight of grief.

In order to help these five families, ICC joined hands with local partners to provide relief. ICC was able to provide relief for each of the families to sustain them for six months. This assistance consisted primarily of rent, food, clothing, and emergency funds for the families.

This support will relieve the immediate strain on these families as they mourn the loss of their loved ones and work to get back on their feet. While they find new means of income, they will be able to grieve the loss of their beloved family members without wor­rying where their next meal will come from.
