10/28/2018 Sri Lanka (International Christian Concern) – Activists at the National Christian Evangelical Alliance of Sri Lanka (NCEASL) claim that violence and discrimination against Christians in Sri Lanka is on the rise. According to a NCEASL, in a recent interview with Morning Star News, 67 incidents of persecution against Christians in Sri Lanka were recorded from January through September.

The types of incidents recorded by NCEASL ranged from violence to discrimination and covered issues such as assaults, intimidation, demands for church closures, false criminal allegations, and police inaction.

Historically, Christian persecution in Sri Lanka has been driven by radical Buddhist nationalism. This ideology views Christianity as a foreign religion that is a threat to the traditionally Buddhist heritage of the country. Followers of this radical ideology use violence and discrimination to marginalize and push back Christianity and its followers.
