Al Shabaab IEDs Kill Kenyan Soldiers

ICC Note:
Al Shabaab targeted Kenyan military vehicles by planting IEDs along the Kenyan-Somali border where military activity has increased to provide better surveillance and patrols. The border between Kenya and Somalia is particularly porous and allows Al Shabaab easy access to launch attacks and safely return to Somalia. For Christians located in Mandera, they understand this reality all too well. Al Shabaab has frequently targeted Christians living in Mandera resulting in hundreds of deaths and injuries but there is little done to protect vulnerable populations like Christians.
3/08/2017 Kenya (The Star) – A KDF soldier has died and five others injured after two IEDs exploded in different locations in Lamu near the Somali border.
The explosions also destroyed armoured vehicles that the soldiers were using for patrols near Sirira and Ishakan on Tuesday afternoon.
KDF said the explosive devices have been planted on the roads by the Al Shabaab.
More officers have been deployed in the area to reinforce surveillance and patrols.
Last night, US President Donald Trump spoke with President Uhuru Kenyatta on how to overcome terrorism and other regional security challenges through close cooperation.
