ICC Note:
After sentencing Czech aid worker Petr Jasek to over 20 years in prison, Sudan ordered the release of Jasek yesterday. Jasek was helping local Christian when the government falsely accused him of inciting hatred and of spying. The international community condemned Sudan’s decision and pressured the government to release Jasek. Two other Sudanese pastors are still being held, but after Jasek’s release, we are hopeful that the government will release the other two pastors.
2/27/2017 Sudan (ABC News) – The Czech Republic’s Foreign Ministry says a Czech national who was sentenced to a stiff prison term in Sudan last month has been released and is on the way home with the minister.
The ministry said in January that Petr Jasek received a 20-year prison term for charges that included espionage.
Czech officials had rejected the sentence as groundless.
