Evangelist from Manipur Assaulted by Gang of Five Men
ICC Note: A Christian evangelist from Manipur was attacked on Thursday by a gang of five unidentified men as he traveled home from his friend’s house in Lakshmipuram. The man was on his way back from a prayer meeting at 2 in the morning when the strangers rushed upon him suddenly and assaulted him. The attackers fled after the man’s cries for help awakened the surrounding neighbors and they still have not yet been identified. Similar attacks have been known to take place in this area and the authorities have been urged to increase their efforts to prevent them from happening. Christians in India face persecution in various forms; many of the belonging to the Dalit class, they are often subject to severe discrimination and violence that the government does little to prevent.
08/19/2016, Lakshmipuram, India (Times of India) – An evangelist from Manipur was allegedly assaulted by five unidentified men in Lakshmipuram near Ulsoor on Thursday. Evan Mamang Kipgen, 26, was on his way home when the gang attacked him.
Indiranagar police are yet to file an FIR in this regard. So far, only a non-cognizable offence report has been registered.
