ICC Note: Despite the violent destruction swirling around the, many Syrian Christians have made the choice to continue on in Syria. The head of the Evangelical Church in Aleppo has highlighted that they recognize the targeting of Christians as part of influencing the political dynamic in the country. The Christian community is making a call for Syrians to stand up for all Syrians, and reject the radical Islamic extremism that has been imported by many foreign fighters.
12/07/13 Syria (MidEast Christian News) – Rev. Ibrahim Nussair, head of the Evangelical Church in Aleppo, said Christians in Syria today are staying in their land more than ever, pointing out that the Syrian people will defend Christians and their existence.
In a press statement, Rev. Nussair added that those who believe that Christians are the weakest link in Syria are deceived.
He noted that there is no doubt that targeting bishops and priests may be a part of a plan to displace Christians of Syria, but “we are fully aware that the first goal of these acts, particularly the issue of the kidnapped bishops and nuns, is to pressure the Syrian leadership through kidnappings to achieve special interests.”
“Most of those who belong to the Nusra Front are not Syrians, but they are strangers and do not belong to the Syrian society. They have clear agendas and aim to tarnish the image of the Syrian citizens who used to build civilization and provide knowledge to other societies throughout history, but who knows the combination of the Syrian society will realize that they will fail,” the pastor added.
