SANTA ANA , CA (July 20, 2006) – Open Doors has received reports of a series of attacks, from May to date, on Muslim Background Believers (MBBs) in Uganda and Kenya . This has really affected the emotional stability of the MBBs in these two countries.

It is reported that Arab missionaries entered Uganda with the mission to train people in Islamic doctrine and mission work. Their presence in Uganda has made the MBBs go through a series of persecutions. Open Doors received reports of four incidents that have taken place since May 2006.

A Ugandan co-worker of Open Doors was attacked in his house by a number of people on May 20. He was able to identify some of these people dressed in Muslim attire. His house was partially destroyed. Fortunately the family managed to escape through the back door. He informed the authorities. This attack forced the co-worker to relocate his family to another area.

In June a MBB by the name of Kawembe was attacked near the capital of Uganda , Kampala , and barely managed to flee.

The most recent attack happened in Entebbe , Uganda , on July 3 when Muslims attacked during a seminar conducted by Pastor Jamadari Awol. A number of people, including four gunmen, entered the meeting and started shooting and throwing stones at the participants. A number of people where injured. One car was damaged during this attack. The pastor managed to escape without incident.

A Kenyan co-worker reported five MBBs were attacked and beaten. He also cited that a number of MBBs were forcefully divorced, kidnapped or forced to flee their homes, all because of their conversion to Christianity. There are reportedly some that were not able to resist the persecution and have reconverted to Islam.

Muslim extremists attacked a Christian radio station at a Pentecostal church in Nairobi on May 12 after a weekly Christian radio program aimed at evangelizing Muslims was broadcast. The brutal raid left one person dead and three injured.
