Members of Michigan Church Prevent Mass Shooting

6/24/2025 United States (International Christian Concern) — What was supposed to be a joyful worship service yesterday at CrossPointe Community Church in Wayne, Michigan, quickly turned into chaos as an active shooter situation unfolded.
According to local police, a 31-year-old male was seen driving recklessly in the church parking lot before approaching the building with a rifle and handgun, just after the start of the 10:45 a.m. worship service.
The church was gathering for a special Vacation Bible Study service, with about 150 people, celebrating the culmination of a week-long children’s program.
The gunmen opened fire as he approached the church, striking a member of the church’s security team in the leg. Another church member ran the assailant over with his pickup truck, while the gunmen opened fire on his vehicle. Members of the church simultaneously locked the front doors.
The gunman was shot and killed by two staff members, according to Wayne Police Chief Ryan Strong. The staff members do not wish to be identified.
“We are grateful for the heroic actions of the church’s staff members who undoubtedly saved many lives and prevented a large-scale mass shooting,” Strong said during a press conference yesterday.
Although motives remain unclear, the police suggest that the assailant may have experienced a mental health crisis. In the past year, the attacker made two accusatory Facebook posts against the church, where his mother is a member. He had attended services at CrossPointe a handful of times.
While tensions are heightened with the unfolding situation in the Middle East, police confirmed there is no evidence to suggest this attack was linked to the ongoing conflict.
The injured security team member underwent surgery yesterday and is in stable condition.
