6/4/2025 Cuba (International Christian Concern) — A pastoral couple in Cuba faces eight years in prison for mentioning God as they stood up for their son, according to Christian Daily International.

The couple, Pastors Luis Guillermo Borjas and Roxana Rojas had mentioned God as they recently testified during a military tribunal for their son, Kevin Laureido Rojas.

Their son, who has a psychiatric condition, had allegedly fled a military facility after government authorities forced him to fulfill his mandatory military service, despite having a medical exemption.

Authorities detained the Assemblies of God pastors on May 19 and charged them with disrespecting and disobeying authorities.

“Pastor Borjas protested, stating that the officials in the court would be accountable to ‘God’s justice,’” Christian Solidarity Worldwide reported. “The prosecutor then ordered the couple to be detained and charged, claiming that it is illegal to mention God or God’s justice in a military tribunal.”

A military prosecutor is seeking an eight-year prison sentence for the couple. Their trial is scheduled for June 9.

Christians in Cuba, a communist country, are often targeted because of their allegiance to Christ instead of the country’s Marxist regime. In January, Pastor Lorenzo Rosales Fajardo was released from a Cuban prison after serving three and a half years for protesting the communist nation’s human rights violations.
