11/18/2024 Kenya (International Christian Concern) – Although Kenya is a predominantly Christian country, the al-Shabab terrorist group often bombs churches and kills believers in the east near the Somali border.

Families are driven from their homes with few possessions and little to no support and are often forced into internally displaced people (IDP) camps. This year, ICC helped 15 families struggling to survive following such attacks. We provided families with shelter, food, clothing, bedding, and other supplies for their homes. We also provide each family with a motorbike for transportation and as a potential source of income.

“We would like to express much gratitude to you for the love and support you have extended to us from the time we were attacked and displaced,” one recipient told an ICC staffer. “You began by providing us with food aid to cushion us from the biting hunger we were going through at the IDP camp and promised to return with a more permanent solution to our plight. Now, we have been resettled and given start-up livelihood packages as we pick up our broken pieces to face the future.”

ICC also has helped rescue youth who have been taken advantage of in the camps or have gotten entangled in drugs or theft. We also help women feel safe and protected while caring for their families.

“These are basic things that we take for granted, but after our homes were destroyed, we started seeing how important a home is,” another beneficiary said. “In the coming year or so, we wish to have grown from where you are leaving us and even save enough money to buy small plots in town where the al-Shabab members are not likely to attack. Please pray for us so that we may realize this dream, among other goals of educating our children and finding good churches where we can grow spiritually.”
