08/30/2022 China (International Christian Concern) – On August 28, as some of the members of Early Rain Covenant Church (ERCC) were gathering for house worship in the morning, the police from Cujin Police Station in Wuhou branch raided the location and arrested the host.

Four police officers and an auxiliary policeman arrived at brother Shu Wei’s home and took photos of the gathering before taking him away for an “illegal gathering.”

Shu was released around 2 PM after the police made him write a statement. According to Shu, the police claimed they were dispatched after his neighbor reported him.

The brief detention of Shu took place two weeks after the August 14 raid of ERCC at a tea shop. Brother Xing Hongwei was arrested and placed under criminal detention for 12 days before his release.

The clampdown against ERCC will likely continue as Beijing tightens its grip on religion, particularly “foreign religions” such as Christianity and Islam.
