05/23/2022 Nigeria (International Christian Concern) – On May 22, six Islamic State West African Province (ISWAP) soldiers were killed in a night attack by the Islamic militant group, Boko Haram. The attack occurred in the Sambisa forest, located in Nigeria’s Borno state. ISWAP, an offshoot of Boko Haram, has been in tension with Boko Haram, which sometimes leads to armed conflicts.  

In addition to killing six soldiers, one of ISWAP’s vehicles was damaged as confirmed by military sources to a representative of Zagazola Makama, a Counter Insurgency Expert and Security Analyst, located in the Lake Chad region. This source reported that ISWAP militants returned to the Kaffa axis to retrieve the slain soldiers’ bodies after the attack and travelled onward to the Wajiroko axis. The militants were riding on six armed trucks and three motorcycles, indicating a fair-sized number of attackers.  

The source reportedly told the website LEADERSHIP that “The infighting and bitter rivalry between [Boko Haram and ISWAP] had intensified with both groups hunting to kill each other at any given opportunity.”
