Sri Lanka Church Requests Additional Christmas Security
12/22/2019 Sri Lanka (International Christian Concern) – As Sri Lankan Christians prepare for Christmas, security concerns prompted churches to request additional security from the government for their worship services.
Due to reports concerning the security of Christians celebrating Christmas en mass, the Archbishop of Colombo, Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith, commented that church officials are operating on the presumption that there could be another attack on churches. In response to the requests, the Sri Lankan government has promised to provide additional security to each and every church for Christmas Eve midnight mass and Christmas Day mass.
This Christmas season marks the first major Christian holiday after the Easter Sunday bombing that took place on April 21, 2019 where more than 260 were killed and 600 were wounded. Though churches and pastors prepare for the worst, they are praying for a peaceful and protect Christmas to celebrate the coming of Christ the Savior.
