08/30/2019 Turkey (International Christian Concern) –  Turkey’s constitutional court has rejected an appeal by Hrant Dink’s family that an effective investigation into Dink’s murder has not been pursued. The court rejected on the basis that not all legal remedies have been exhausted.

Hrant Dink is an Armenian journalist who was assassinated in 2007 in front of the newspaper he had founded. He frequently questioned Turkey’s policy of denying the Armenian Genocide, arguing that recognition is the first step towards future prevention. The genocide was part of an effort by Ottoman-era Turkey to eliminate the Christian presence.

Since his assassination, the judicial process has been delayed at every turn. Security forces were reportedly aware of the plot but did not intervene. They continuously fail to appear before the court. This continued frustration of due process over the past 13 years has led to little movement in holding those responsible for his death accountable for their crimes.
