Six People in One Family Killed by Gunmen in Plateau State
05/29/2019 Nigeria (International Christian Concern) – Gunmen invaded Dangwal village of Ganawuri District of Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State on Monday, 27 May around 7 pm. During the attack, the gunmen, believed to be Fulani militants, killed six members of one family. Those six included a grandmother and grandfather, mother and father, and two children of the Lo-Gwong Du family.
This is not the first attack in Riyom by suspected Fulani militants. Over the past decade, more than 70 communities and villages in Riyom Local Government Area have been occupied by the militants, taking away homes and access to family lands from their owners. Ten of thousands have been displaced from this single local government area, which is equivalent to a county in the United States.
Many other areas in Plateau and other states have suffered due to the continued aggression by Fulani militants, yet the Nigerian government continues to turn a blind eye. President Buhari must begin taking this issue seriously before the entire country is embroiled in the fighting.
