12/27/2018 India (International Christian Concern) – A report by Factchecker.in recently documented a spike in religiously motivated hate crimes in India in 2018. According to Factchecker.in, 2018 recorded this highest number of religiously motivated incidents in a decade.

In 2018, 30 people were killed in attacks motivated by religious hatred in India. Of that 30, 18 were Muslim, 10 Hindu, and two Christian. In addition to those killed, at least 305 individuals were injured.

Attacks on Christians and their places of worship have skyrocketed since the current BJP-led government took power in 2014. Much of the increase in violence has been perpetrated by radical Hindu nationalist groups operating with near impunity under BJP rule.

The Evangelical Fellowship of India (EFI) recorded 141 attacks on Christians in 2014, the same year the BJP took power. In 2017, the latest data available, EFI recorded 351 attacks on Christians, more than doubling the number recorded in 2014.
