12/26/2018 Hong Kong (International Christian Concern) – Hundreds of Hong Kong Christians gathered to pray dressed in black on December 23 to show their solidarity with persecuted Christians in mainland China.

The idea of wearing mourning black to show support of the suffering fellow Christians spread online over the past few days. The action will be repeated on December 30.

In recent weeks, three major house churches in China have been forcibly shut down by the government: Beijing’s Zion Church, Sichuan’s Early Rain Covenant Church, and Guangzhou’s Rongguili Church.

Hundreds of church members were arrested and interrogated, with many leaders criminally charged and kept at undisclosed locations. Church buildings were closed or confiscated by the government, though the churches were legal tenants or owners of property.

With respect with last Sunday’s action, one of the organizers, Lu Fengping said “although by initiating this ‘wear black during service to pray and remember movement’ we cannot bring immediate improvement to China’s current religious status, we hope to wake the public up [to this reality].”
