11/13/2018 Pakistan (International Christian Concern) – Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau told members of the media on Monday in Paris that his government was holding talks with Pakistan about granting Asia Bibi asylum in Canada.

We are in discussions with the Pakistani government,” Prime Minister Trudeau told AFP. “There is a delicate domestic context that we respect which is why I don’t want to say any more about that, but I will remind people Canada is a welcoming country.

On October 31, Pakistan’s Supreme Court acquitted Bibi, a Christian woman, of the blasphemy conviction under which she had been sentenced to death for nearly a decade. This acquittal was met with three days of mass protest by Pakistan’s hardliners who demanded the court review its decision and bar Bibi from fleeing the country.

To date, Bibi and her family remain in Pakistan but have been flown to a safe location by the Pakistani government. Many countries have offered Bibi and her family asylum, but it has not been confirmed where to or when the Christian family will be allowed to flee.
