10/31/2018 Nigeria (International Christian Concern) – A United States missionary to Cameroon has been killed. Charles Wesco and his family had just arrived in Cameroon less than two weeks prior to his death. His family had prepared for the missions trip to the country for several years and had been there several times in preparation for the long term trip. However, due to the increase in sectarian violence in Cameroon, he was killed before he could even get started on the missions he wanted to do there.

He was shot and killed on yesterday in Northwest Cameroon. He and his family, his wife and eight children, had just moved to Bamenda, part of the Anglophone North. As of now, it appears as if he might have been caught in the crossfire of Cameroonian Soldiers and Anglophone separatists.  He was not taking part of the protests, but was driving through the city when his car was hit by several bullets. He was rushed to the hospital, but the bullets had hit him in the head and he died quickly.

This unrest has caused the deaths of a priest, a Christian student and now a US Missionary. It started in 2016 when Anglophone people started saying that the majority Francophone government and people of Cameroon were discriminating against those of the English speaking minority. The violence has continued to escalate leading to many people being killed during protests and in shoot outs with the military.
