ICC Note: Christians in Pakistan face torture, police abuse, and other forms of persecution because of their faith identity. Across the world, international leaders are being called on to confront Pakistan’s government and end this abuse. Especially concerning is the violence and abuse that surrounds Pakistan’s notorious blasphemy laws. Will this international advocacy lead to any positive change?

08/24/2018 Pakistan (One News Now) – Christians in Pakistan are facing torture, police abuse and death for their faith, and international leaders are being called to confront the Pakistani government for turning a blind eye to the violent persecution.

American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ) Senior Counsel for Digital Advocacy Mathew Clark contended that in some cases, it is the government itself that is doing leading the persecution.

One example of such persecution involves, Asia Bibi – the Christian mother who has been in prison now for more than nine years because of her faith.

Clark went on to discuss the problem of mob persecution in Pakistan.

“[Mob persecution takes place] where Christians are attacked by essentially radical, Islamic, angry mobs,” Clark informed. “Burned [and] beaten – half of the village is forced to flee because the other half of the village goes after the Christians.”

He maintained that justice for the crimes is seldom reached.
