ICC Provides Bibles for a Group of Christians in Bangladesh
By Linda Jones
03/22/2018 Washington, DC (International Christian Concern) – Poverty is one of the many challenges facing Christians in Bangladesh because of the severe discrimination that they experience. Churches and small groups must meet secretly in private homes to protect themselves from constant harassment, attacks, and death threats. Christians living in rural areas often do not have the means to purchase a Bible which makes it even more difficult for them to grow spiritually and evangelize to others.
After learning about the many challenges that these Christians face, International Christian Concern (ICC) purchased 50 new Bibles through our Bible Fund. These Bibles were then donated to new believers in Sathkira District and Bagherhat District. For many believers in these communities, this was their first Bible.
“The Procharok Vai (Evangelist brother) came to us once a week and we would hear the Word of God from him. The rest of the day me and my family didn’t hear anything about God because I did not have a Bible; no one in our village had one. We would wait a whole week for the evangelist to come. Now I can read the Bible every day to learn more about Christ and will share the Good News with my neighbors also,” shared Labbonoe, a new believer and beneficiary.
Another recipient of a Bible, Santosh Robidas, said, “I am a new believer, but I am eager to share the Good News with others who don’t know yet. I didn’t know much before, so I had no confidence to share my faith. Now, I will study the Word of God and will learn many things to be able to answer many questions. The Bible gave me more confidence to share Christ with others because the Bible is the source of knowledge. I will not be ashamed to answer any questions about Jesus from the people.”
Please continue to pray for Christians in Bangladesh who are eager to learn about God, but cannot afford to purchase a Bible. Ask God to provide for all of their needs, including their need to worship and fellowship together as the Body of Christ. Remember to also pray for their spiritual growth and safety as they continue to endure many hardships for choosing to follow Christ and share the Gospel.
