ICC Note:

Two crosses belonging to two Catholic churches were desecrated last Sunday, likely by Hindu radicals. Local authorities have claimed they will take strong action against the perpetrators of this crime, but often these perpetrators go free. Attacks on Christians and their places of worship in India have skyrocketed since the current BJP-led government came to power in 2014. Many claim that the government’s inability or unwillingness to publicly confront the Hindu radical groups responsible for this increase in religious intolerance is a major factor in its growth over the past three years.

07/06/2017 India (Business Standard) – Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on Sunday said that strong action will be taken against those responsible for the desecration of two places of Catholic worship in south Goa’s Salcete sub district.

Parrikar told reporters that police had been directed to intensify patrolling in the area.

“We do not tolerate such mischief,” Parrikar said.
