Suspected Boko Haram militants have killed nine and abducted more than 30, in an attack on a southern Niger refugee village. The village of Ngalewa is located about 50 km north of the Nigeria-Niger border and has become home to many Nigerian refugees fleeing the attacks and persecution of Boko Haram. The attackers road into town on Sunday to conduct the attack and escaped before local security forces could stop them. Many of these Refugees are Christians fleeing the persecution of a majority Muslim population in Northern Nigeria.

07/03/2017 Niger (Vanguard) – Suspected Boko Haram Islamist militants killed nine people and abducted dozens more in southern Niger on Sunday night, the local mayor and a journalist said.

The attackers rode camels into the village of Ngalewa, about 50 km (30 miles) north of the border with Nigeria – home of the Boko Haram insurgency – said Maman Nour, the director of a community radio station in the nearby town of Kabelawa. “They killed nine people and they kidnapped around 30,” said Nour, who had spoken to fleeing villagers.
