Imprisoned Christian Woman in Desperate Need of Medical Attention
ICC Note:
An Iranian woman, who has been imprisoned for her faith since 2013, is reported to be in severe need of medical attention. Reports have stated that authorities have repeatedly denied her health care during her imprisonment and even cut short treatments that did take place. Her alleged crime was working with Pastor Saeed involving house churches and orphanages.
3/29/2017 Iran (BP News) – Maryam Naghash Zargaran, an imprisoned Iranian convert to Christianity, is in “urgent need of special care.”
An Iranian Christian media outlet, Mohabat News, reported March 24 that Zargaran’s health condition “deteriorated last week,” citing sources close to her family.
Zargaran suffers from multiple health issues, including ASD hole-in-the heart disease, “drastic” weight loss, weakness, depression and trauma, according to Mohabat News, online at www.mohabatnews.com/en in English.
Accused of participating with pastor Saeed Abedini in a house church in connection with her work at an orphanage, Zargaran has been in the women’s ward of Tehran’s notorious Evin prison since 2013, according to World Watch Monitor, a news service that focuses on persecuted Christians. Abedini was imprisoned in Iran from 2012 to early 2016 when he was released as part of a reported prisoner swap in the U.S.-Iran nuclear deal.
