ICC Note:

Nigerian government officials announced their continued hunt of Boko Haram militants several days after the military reportedly overran Boko Haram’s last stronghold. Officials reported that they arrested a Boko Haram leader on Saturday. Officials also warned Nigerians that Boko Haram will probably scatter to the Borno, Yobe, and Adamawa states around the Sambisa Forest. In addition to arresting a Boko Haram leader, two major roads were reopened which had been closed since 2013 as a way of preventing Boko Haram movements.

12/28/2016 Nigeria (Eyewitness News) – The Nigerian army is warning Nigerians in neighbouring states that fleeing Boko Haram members were escaping the Sambisa Forest to civilian territories around Borno, Yobe and Adamawa states.

The warning is coming on the heels of the arrest of a Boko Haram leader in Ikorodu, Lagos state, Nigeria’s commercial capital.

The chief of army staff, Lieutenant-General Tukur Buratai said the terrorist, one of those fleeing from the Boko Haram former stronghold of Sambisa Forest, was arrested on Saturday.

Buratai who did not give further details made the announcement in Maidugiri, where he reopened two major roads in the state that were closed since 2013 at the height of the atrocities of the insurgents.
