The Christian Silmane Bouhafs is Threatened by Fellow Inmates in Prison

ICC Note: Algerian Christian prisoner, Silmane Bouhafs, has recently been physically assaulter in prison and his family is concerned for possible future attacks. The recent attack by fellow inmates came after Bouhafs reacted to a anti-Christian broadcast that was shown inside the prison. According to his daughter’s testimony, inmates were enraged by the broadcast in which a Muslim cleric called for the punishment of all non-Muslims in Algeria. When Bouhafs rebuked the message, a group of Muslims attacked him.

11/16/2016 Algeria (Journal Chretien): For a week, Bouhafs Slimane, a Christian sentenced to three years in prison in Algeria for “attack on Islam and the Prophet Mohammed” undergoes threats fellow inmates who had tried previously to assault him physically. These were the latest data from Tilleli his daughter, who visited him last Friday.

Sentenced early September by the Sétif appeal court to three years in prison, Slimane Bouhafs was transferred there a month of Setif in prison to that of Constantine. Her daughter, who visited him, told El Watan conditions in which today lives his father, leading him to believe that “it is a genuine threat” in its physical and especially for one week where receiving threats from a group of prisoners.

According to the testimony of Tilleli reccueilli with his father, the threats began after the reaction of his father in a discussion on non-Muslims in Algeria. After seeing a preacher who hosts a show broadcast inside the prison calling for repudiate and punish non-Muslims in Algeria, Slimane Bouhafs reacted contended that Algeria was not a Muslim and non – musulmans Algerians also have the right to live their faith freely in their own country.

The other inmates, frustrated by his reaction assaulted physically, but a prisoner intervened in time to alert the guards.

According to the young girl, though her father told her that detention conditions are better than in Constantine Setif that Slimane Bouhafs be exposed to Christian persecution because he is considered an enemy of the Islam. Because of the risks to his safety, family Slimane Bouhafs want it to be transferred to Bejaia.
