ICC Note:

ICC recently reported on 16-year-old Pakistani Nabeel Masih who was accused of blasphemy. After mobs threatened his life, in addition to his lawyers and family’s lives, his family had to flee their homes and seek safety elsewhere. Masih remains in jail even though a thorough investigation has not been conducted into the blasphemy accusations. Both Masih and Asia Bibi’s blasphemy case demonstrate how mobs try to use blasphemy charges as a cover for extrajudicial persecution.

10/19/2016 China (Christian Daily) – Nabeel Masih, 16, has been accused of blasphemy and is now facing the death penalty after he allegedly posted on Facebook a photo of the Kaaba with a pig’s head on top, an image that local Muslims claimed was “insulting and sacrilegious.” When he faced the court this week, around 80 Muslims confronted the Christian teen and called for him to be hanged, the Express details.

Aside from that, Masih’s lawyers were also threatened by the Muslim mob. Aneeqa Maria, one of his legal representatives, claims that the prosecution threatened their team for taking on Masih’s case.

Because of the commotion, the hearing has been postponed until a yet undetermined date. Masih, on the other hand, will remain in jail. His family has fled their home because of the threats against them.
