ICC Note:

Pakistan’s military claims it has arrested seven militants from an offshoot of the Pakistani Taliban in connection with a recent attack on a Christian community in Peshawar. According to the military, the attack was planned in Afghanistan and then carried out by forces that crossed the border. Christians and their places of worship have come under increasing attack by Pakistan terrorist organizations. Many claim that the militants see Christians as both representatives of the West and easy targets. In 2013, the Pakistani Taliban claimed responsibility for the bombing of All Saints Church in Peshawar that killed over 130 Christians. The attack on All Saints Church remains the single worst attack on Christians in Pakistan’s history.

09/29/2016 Pakistan (Catholic Herald) – Pakistan’s military says it has arrested seven militants accused of carrying out attacks on a Christian colony and a court house in which 13 people were killed.

Army spokesman Lt Gen Asim Saleem Bajwa said Tuesday the army had broken the militant network responsible for the September 2 attacks.

He says the attacks were planned from Afghanistan, and that Pakistan has informed Kabul.

Bajwa does not disclose the identity of the detained men, but a breakaway Taliban faction has said it carried out the attacks.
