US Criticizes Pakistan’s Notorious Blasphemy Law and Religious Discrimination

ICC Note: The US State Department recently released their annual report highlighting global religious freedom. In this year’s report, they particularly pointed to the blasphemy laws and religious discrimination and persecution found in many Islamic countries in the world, especially Pakistan. The report stated that in Pakistan, the religious minorities, such as Christians, face severe discrimination and violent persecution on account of their faith. Many international voices, as well as people within the country, have been urging Pakistan to repeal their blasphemy laws which are a major source of religious persecution in the country.

08/13/2016, Pakistan (Christians in Pakistan) – US points finger at the blasphemy law and religious discrimination most prevalent in Islamic countries including Pakistan in particular. Obama administration is underlining huge concerns as the notorious blasphemy laws and the religion based discrimination, in some of the Muslim nations in the world.

In its annual report, which is based on the global religious freedom the US State Department said that blasphemy laws accompanied by either on the blink legal security measures or absent in some cases. The report further pointed out that due to the lack of the legal protection, communities become vulnerable to human rights abuse.
