Punishment Handed Down on Christian Activist in Tianjin Trials

ICC Note: The final trial of the CCP’s infamous “crackdown week” on human rights advocates has been concluded, and the victim on this occasion was a Christian man. Merely because of his participation in pro-democracy events, Gou Hongguo too is apparently a potent force of “subversion” against the state. His persecution is unfortunately a symptom of his country’s diseased administration – any Communist government will be insecure and spiteful against opposition, for its leadership remains in a perpetual war to prevent others from telling themselves that they are wrong. The terrible coercion Hongguo has been subject to is evident in his farcical “testimony” of wrongdoing.

8/5/2016 Tianjen, China (South China Morning Post) – Christian activist Gou Hongguo was on Friday morning found guilty of subverting state power, in the last of four such cases heard in Tianjin this week.

Gou, 55, was sentenced by the Tianjin No 2 Intermediate People’s Court to a three-year jail term, suspended for three years.

Prosecutors said Gou, a member of veteran pro-democracy activist Hu Shigen’s church and his firm follower, took part in the 9th Interracial Leadership Forum in Taipei in April 2014.

Supporters of Xinjiang, Tibet and Inner Mongolia independence also joined and spoke at the event, the prosecutors said, adding that this was tantamount to anti-China training.

The conference advocated non-violent resistance to push for social change and a democratic transition of China, the prosecutors said.

Such discussions amounted to sharing experiences on how to overthrow China’s one-party rule and start a colour revolution, they said.
