Nine Christians Killed by Islamic Militants in Democratic Republic of Congo
ICC Note: According to reports from the area, Islamic militants from the group Muslim Defense International (MDI) killed nine people from a Christian town in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The attack took place on July 5and resulted in the death of five women and four men, including a church leader. The militants also raided the homes and stole the livestock of the local villagers. NGOs in the area report that roughly 1,000 people in this primarily Christian area have been killed by the Islamic militants in the past two years. This group is known for their killings, abductions, rapes, and forced conversions that target the Christians in the country.
08/01/2016, Democratic Republic of Congo, (Morning Star News) – Uniformed men suspected of belonging to the Muslim Defense International (MDI) Islamist militant group have killed five women and four men near a predominantly Christian town in the Democratic Republic of Congo, two months after a massacre in the same area.
Armed with guns and machetes, the suspected militants from the Uganda-based group on July 5 attacked three Christian communities near the town of Oicha in eastern Congo, killing the nine people including a church elder, according to U.K.-based aid organization Barnabas Fund. The assailants also looted homes and stole livestock, Barnabas Fund reported.
