ICC Note: A prominent spokesman in Pakistani civil society wants to make the country safer for religious minorities. Sadiq al Farooq, the Chairman of the Matroka Waqf Imlak Board said that ensuring the provision of security and protection for religious minorities in the country is one of his goals, as well as protecting the proper administration of their places of worship. Pakistan is a primarily Muslim country where Christians are treated as second-class citizens and face various terrible forms of persecution.

We are striving to make the country a safer and prosperous for the religious minorities, he added. “We wish that every pilgrim visiting Pakistan be offered hospitality every best possible way,” he said.
Sadiq al Farooq was addressing a press conference at the Lahore Press Club along with MPA Kanji Rao and six families from minorities’ communities. At this occasion, children who are being sponsored for treatment abroad were also present. Sadiq al Farooq briefed the media that CM Punjab Shahbaz Sahrif had introduced a free of cost medical treatment initiative.
