Gujrat: Christian wage worker handed over to police over demand for lawful wages

ICC Note: Pakistani police have released a Christian wage laborer after detaining him for three days and coercing him to sign official paperwork and taking his fingerprints Sajid Masih’s employer filed a complaint with the police after Masih demanded rightful payment for work completed that the employer wanted to deny him. Now that he’s free, Masih is reportedly yet to receive payment. In Pakistan, Christians are often treated as second-class citizens and are forced to work in lowly labor positions where they face regular discrimination and can rarely receive proper due process for injustices committed against them.

7/20/2016 Pakistan (Christians in Pakistan) – Christian wage worker handed over to police after an out-of-key confrontation with his employer who showed reluctance to hand him his lawful wages. Sajid Masih resident of CHak Sada, Gujrat worked at a kiln of Muslim proprietor Chaudhary Azhar. After toiling, Sajid asked Chaudhary Azhar for his wages, who not only denied him the rightful wages but also handed him over to police.
