ICC Note: According to the Nigerian Army, Boko Haram terrorists attacked a village in Borno State, Nigeria on Tuesday, June 14. Entering the village on six motorcycles the terrorists killed four villagers and abducted four women. Some villagers attempted to follow the attackers as they left the village, pursuing them to their suspected hideout, but the terrorists escaped before there was any engagement or rescue of those who were kidnapped. The Nigerian Army has also disclosed that 17 Boko Haram members just surrendered and are now undergoing screening. They surrendered to the military after saying that the Army’s attacks on Boko Haram have become too unbearable to withstand, but it is unclear whether they are surrendering since they were never willing members of the terrorist group or whether they are attempting to now infiltrate society. The Nigerian Army has been making some amount of progress recently in trying to eradicate Boko Haram from the North-East. While the surrender is a step forward, the murder and the abduction is a continuation of the work the radical-Islamic terrorist group has been engaged in since their insurgency in 2009. They are notorious for abducting women, raping, and killing many people, particularly targeting Christians.
