ICC Note: In the face of criticism directed at the Turkish government for its recent infringements upon representatives of minority groups and non-Islamic religious institutions, Turkey reported that they will be passing a law that will promote dialogue between these groups and Turkish Parliament.  The legislative action is said to be a segue into an easing of restrictions on minority representatives in Turkey who wish to seek elected office on behalf of their minority populations.  

2/12/2016 Ankara (Agenzia Fides) – During a recent parliamentary hearing, Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Yalcin Akdogan gave assurances on the overcoming future of the institutional impasse in which foundations linked to ethnic, cultural and religious minorities have found themselves for years. Responding to a specific question by parliamentary Garo Paylan, a member of the pro-Kurdish Party of HDP, the vicepremier confirmed that in the coming weeks consultations with representatives of foundations will take place, to then proceed to the drafting of new regulations that allow individual organisms to proceed to the election of their respective leaders.
