Nigerian Herdsmen Kill 20 Attack in Adamawa
ICC Note: Radical Muslim Fulani herders have struck Adamawa state, killing 20 people, the latest in a decades-long string of attacks on Christian villages in “Middle Belt” Nigeria that cab be described as genocide. The BBC reports that the conflict was over destruction of crops, but the information provided makes little sense in the context of a systematic, brutal, and frequent depopulation of Christian farming villages that Fulani attacks have perpetrated for 15 years. Western media always improperly attribute the massacres to tribal disputes over grazing versus farming rights, but the continued slaughter of Christians in the “Middle Belt” suggests a more complex agenda than revenge for cattle theft. Additionally, accusations of cattle theft are nearly always owing to hearsay only. ICC’s local Nigerian sources say the attackers numbered in the thousands, carrying sophisticated weapons and that the razed the village during their attack.
1/25/16 (BBC) – At least 20 people, including a police chief, were killed in early morning attacks on four villages in northern Nigeria, police say.
Local media say as many as 29 people were killed in the attack by suspected herdsmen from the Fulani ethnic group and police were caught in an ambush.
Unconfirmed reports suggest the herdsmen were acting in revenge.
