ICC NOTE: A federal court has determined the city of Fort Wayne, Indiana can block specific advertisements requesting space on city buses. Women’s Health Link had requested advertising be placed on city buses offering counseling services to those in need. The organization was denied the ability to purchase space on the city buses as it was revealed Women’s Health Link is a pro-life counseling service. WHL’s overall mission is to provide women with support in “physical, emotional, spiritual, or mental health care.” Alliance Defending Freedom has been representing the organization during their legal battles as they are presenting the case to be one of selective censorship.

1/13/2016 Fort Wayne, Indiana (CBN News) – A federal court has ruled that Fort Wayne, Indiana, can block a pro-life group from buying ads on city buses.

Women’s Health Link wanted to advertise its counseling services.

The rejected ad showed a woman’s face, and said, “You are not alone.” It offered a “free resource for women seeking health care.”

But the city’s public transportation company, Citilink, said the ad can’t run because the group’s website addresses “controversial issues.”

Alliance Defending Freedom has been representing Women’s Health Link in their legal battle.

ADF Legal Counsel Jonathan Scruggs disagreed with the ruling.

“City officials can’t run nearly identical ads from other non-profit groups, such as the United Way, and then single out Women’s Health Link for censorship,” he said.

“Government has a responsibility to ensure that all organizations benefit from community advertising,” he continued.
