ICC Note: International Christian Concern (ICC) marks the one-year anniversary of the Boko Haram massacre of Baga, Nigeria, where 2,000 people were slaughtered, with great sadness. While Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari flaunts victory over the militant Islamist insurgency, people in Baga continue to live under the constant threat of attack. The trauma continues as so profound, that residents are reportedly farming in secret while most of the region surrounding Baga remains a ghost town.

1/11/16 Baga, Nigeria (The Guardian) – In the run-up to the 2015 election, Buhari said ending the terror threat to the north-eastern states was his priority. Speaking soon after news of the Baga attack broke, he blasted his predecessor, Goodluck Jonathan, for his docile response, describing the incident as “an unspeakable massacre”.

“As a trained military man and administrator, come May 2015, the safety of each and every Nigerian life will be a priority,” he vowed. “This scourge, this season of death must be brought to a complete stop. I sincerely believe that Nigerians deserve better than this.”
