Female church worker shot dead after Mass
ICC Note:
It’s unclear at this point why Conchita Francisco, a 62 year old school principal and church worker, was shot in the head and killed yesterday in the Philippines Southern island of Mindanao. In the past, Christians have been targeted both by radical Islamic militant groups in the area and for engaging in certain political activities. Police are investigating a motive for the killing.
11/14/2012 Philippines (UCANews.com)- A female church worker was shot in the head and killed yesterday outside the main Catholic church in Bongao town, capital of the southwestern province of Tawi-Tawi.
Police reports said Conchita “Ching” Francisco, a 62-year-old school principal, was shot in the head after attending evening Mass.
Oblates of Mary Immaculate missionary Priest Jun Mercado said Francisco was about to take a ride on a motorcycle when assailants shot her. The gunmen remain unidentified.
“She died instantly,” Mercado wrote in a Facebook post. “Earlier, she led the rosary and was the commentator at Mass.”
He added that he arrived at the parish convent at around 6 pm “only to be met by a murder.”
Aside from helping out in the parish church, Francisco also worked as principal at the Mindanao State University in the town.
