Nigerian President Asks the Archbishop of Canterbury for Prayer in Fight Against Boko Haram

Archbishop Rt. Rev Justin Delby of Canterbury visited the Presidential Palace in Abuja to pray with Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan this week. The president specifically requested the clergy man’s prayers regarding the continuously deteriorating security situation in the nation’s northeast, as exemplified by Boko Haram’s most recent spate of attacks.

06/04/2014 Nigeria (Leadership) – President Goodluck Jonathan on Wednesday sought spiritual help from the Archbishop of Canterbury, Rt. Rev. Justin Delby over the security challenges posed by the Boko Haram sect and other issues bordering on the economy.

The Archbishop, who was at the presidential villa, Abuja, said he was there to pray with Jonathan and express his condolence over those who were killed by the insurgents.

Addressing State House correspondents after meeting with the president, Delby said, “The country has so much going for it. In the meeting, the President talked about the need of a solution that will reach all people, not just the security but economy, spiritual and every part of the human life. The bombing in Jos was deeply disheartening because I know Jos very well. I came to pray with His Excellency and express our condolence for the losses.
