From June 5-25, 48 churches and Christian organizations across South Korea are joining together to pray for the gospel to reunify North Korea and South Korea, and for imprisoned missionaries in North Korea to be released.

Peace Korea has held 21-day prayer meetings in Seire since 2007, following Daniel’s example in Daniel 10 when he dedicated three weeks to pray for his people.

“The Seire Peace Prayer Meeting is a Korean church united prayer movement that transcends denominations,” the organizer told Christian Daily Korea. “I hope that the Korean church will present a direction to the world with the gospel, and that the Korean Peninsula will become one in the gospel.”

The theme of the 20th Peace Prayer Assembly of Seire is drawn from Isaiah 43:19, “Behold, I am doing a new thing.” Peace Korea published the “Seire Peace Prayer Book” to guide the event. It includes messages from pastors, stories about Christian martyrs, and prayers that meditate on the new works God is doing.

“The purpose of this prayer book is to look back at the seniors of the Bible, the world church, and the Korean church’s martyrdom faith, and to help today’s faith lead to obedience in life,” the organizer said.

Many of the prayers in the booklet and during the meetings are centered on the release of three South Korean missionaries. Since 2017, the movement has seen five individuals released from prison. For the last 10 years, they have been praying for these three to be freed.

Churches around the world — including in Germany, Russia, France, Indonesia, the United States, and the United Kingdom — have joined the campaign online. Those who want to join the prayer meetings digitally can find more information at peacecorea.org or on their YouTube channel, and participate via the daily videos posted there.
