On April 19, British police arrested an evangelical preacher for street evangelizing. Steve Maile was taken into custody while his wife, Karina, and their four children helplessly watched on.

Footage of the scene showed Maile addressing the officers as they approached him, saying, “You cannot arrest me. I am a preacher of the gospel. There is no offense being committed here. None whatsoever.” While being handcuffed, he called out to the crowd, “You repent and believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you’ll be saved.”

Maile is the senior pastor of Oasis City Church. He has served in various ministries around the world for more than 35 years and serves alongside his wife, his co-pastor. Working in ministry has made him perseverant in sharing the gospel no matter the circumstance. In its exclusive article, Britannia Daily reported that Maile did not cease to proclaim the name of Jesus, even as officers restrained him.

The footage outraged many people. One TikTok user commented, “I’m a Muslim, and I think this is very wrong. He should be allowed to preach and worship his religion freely.”

Maile was interrogated for hours before being released. He returned home around 1 a.m. and summarized everything that happened after his public arrest in a video message

“I was absolutely brutalized and victimized by the British police,” he said. “I was in excruciating pain. I was double handcuffed and arrested on the street in front of my wife and my children. My wife was shaking. It was a terrible experience, and my children were crying.”

Maile, out on bail, is seeking legal advice and is using his experience to encourage other believers.

“Remember, no weapon formed against me — or you — will prosper in the mighty name of Jesus,” Maile said in his video. “God bless you all.”
