Worshippers, Pastor Abducted During Attacks in Nigeria
The Evangelical Church Winning All has confirmed several violent attacks targeting its congregation and clergy in north-central Nigeria, raising new concerns about the safety of Christians and ongoing insecurity linked to armed groups, including Fulani ethnic militias.
According to an official statement released by the church, the first attack occurred earlier this week, during a worship service at ECWA Oke Oro LCC in Oro Ago, Kwara state. Armed assailants stormed the church, disrupting the service and abducting eight worshippers. Several others were injured, and the attackers stole phones and other valuables before fleeing.
A subsequent, related incident took place in which the attackers reportedly abducted a senior cleric, Rev. Sunday Bobai Agangs, further escalating fears among local Christian communities.
ECWA leadership acknowledged the incidents and stated that it is actively monitoring the situation while engaging relevant authorities. The church has urged members and the public to remain calm and prayerful amid the growing tension.
“The Church is calling on everyone to remain calm but prayerful because God is going to fight His battle Himself,” the statement read.
The attacks in Kwara state are the latest affecting Christian communities across Nigeria’s Middle Belt and beyond, where armed Fulani militias and other extremist elements have been repeatedly accused of targeting rural populations, churches, and clergy. These incidents have contributed to mass displacement, loss of lives, and a climate of fear among vulnerable communities.
International Christian Concern (ICC) continues to document cases of abductions, killings, and destruction of property involving Christian minorities in Nigeria. Advocacy groups have consistently called on the Nigerian government to take decisive action to protect civilians, ensure accountability for perpetrators, and uphold the fundamental right to freedom of religion or belief.
There is no official confirmation yet on the abducted worshippers and the pastor.
