Strength Amid Persecution: Preparing Pastors to Handle Hardship
11/11/2024 India (International Christian Concern) – Rising anti-Christian sentiment has recently led to more incidents of brutality and violence against Christians in India. At least 161 incidents of violence against Christian were reported in the first 75 days of 2024. The dangerous trend has put the Christian minority, particularly Christian pastors, and other leaders, on guard. The Christian community is anxious about the future.
In response to this troubling reality, ICC is working to empower Indian pastors and leaders and prepare them to endure persecution with confidence and in a proper manner. Our Persecution Response Training (PRT) not only helps reduce physical and emotional pain and property damage but also mitigates persecution by training pastors to be proactive. Through the training, pastors and leaders learn basic religious freedom laws and practical ways to handle persecution incidents, including where to turn for help.
“I am so thankful for the opportunity to attend the PRT training,” said a pastor from Uttar Pradesh. “Every pastor and church planter should know what we have learned in the PRT training. Through this training program, I have learned how to file an FIR (first information report) and how to approach higher authority officials, etc.”
“The PRT training gave me more confidence to face persecution, and it gave me an important understanding of how I can proactively address the persecution as a whole and mitigate the persecution.”
The training lasts one day and covers seven topics, including Advocacy in the Bible, Legal Awareness, Reporting, and Media Awareness. Typically, there are about 30 participants.
Many Christian nonprofits, independent church groups, and denominations have sought the PRT for their constituent of pastors and leaders to equip them to properly face persecution. At least 100 PRT sessions will occur by the end of 2024.
